Research peptide raw material

SS-31 Raw Material Supplier

SS-31, also listed as elamipretide and MTP-131, is the tetrapeptide amide D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2, 639.8 g/mol. It is supplied as research-use raw powder from 5 g, cold-chain, or as lyophilized vials of 10 mg and 50 mg in kits of ten. Three public batch records are listed for it in the Pepti COA library, each with HPLC purity, a molecular-weight result and test and retest dates.

Identity

SS-31, elamipretide and MTP-131 are one sequence

SS-31 is a four-residue peptide amide: D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2. The same structure is listed under the name elamipretide and under the code MTP-131, and all three names resolve to CAS 736992-21-5 and to PubChem CID 11764719, with the formula C32H49N9O5 and a molecular weight of 639.8 g/mol. A purchase order can carry any of the names, but it should carry the CAS number, because the name alone does not say which salt or which registry entry a supplier has in mind.

Two of the four residues are not standard. The first is D-arginine, the mirror-image form of the usual residue. The second, Dmt, is 2',6'-dimethyltyrosine, a tyrosine carrying two extra methyl groups on the ring. Both details are fixed by the CAS number and both are invisible to a mass spectrometer in a specific sense: the D-form of arginine has the same mass as the L-form, so the molecular-weight result confirms composition and the amide but not the configuration. Buyers whose work depends on the stereochemistry confirm it by their own method on receipt.

One of the three public records is worth knowing about before you read it. The 50 mg record states CAS 341001-38-7 on its certificate, a different registry number from the one on this page. That is what the record shows. The number used here, 736992-21-5, is the one indexed against PubChem CID 11764719 and it is the one to put on a purchase order. If your quality file needs the two numbers reconciled, raise it on the enquiry and the reply will state which number the certificate for your lot carries. This page is about naming, documentation, formats, handling and quotation. It does not describe what SS-31 does.

Documentation

Three public SS-31 lots and two quoted fills

An SS-31 lot is released with a certificate of analysis issued against its lot number, giving the HPLC purity of the main peak, the molecular-weight result from mass spectrometry, the manufacturing date, the test date and the retest date. Three lots are public in the Pepti library, filled at 10 mg, 20 mg and 50 mg, and their purity results fall between 98.72% and 99.25%. The 10 mg lot reports 99.25%, the 20 mg lot 99.17% and the 50 mg lot 98.72%. Each is a result on one lot; none is a specification for the next.

The fills quoted today are 10 mg and 50 mg. The 20 mg record remains in the library as evidence of a lot that was made and tested, and it is a legitimate reference for the format of the certificate, but a 20 mg fill is not on the current offer sheet. If you need that fill, ask; the answer will be a quotation or a clear no rather than a substitution. Raw powder from 5 g is quoted per gram and sidesteps the question of fill altogether.

The molecular-weight result near 639.8 g/mol, read with the CAS number, confirms that the main peak is the tetrapeptide amide and not the free acid or a shorter sequence. The purity result is the share of the chromatogram under that peak. The certificate does not give the counter-ion, the water content, the fill of an individual vial, residual solvents, endotoxin or sterility, and the public summary claims none of them. Those are for the buyer to commission from an outside laboratory and file under the lot number. The records are in the batch table on this page, and the guide on matching a COA to the batch you receive explains the comparison.

Ordering

SS-31 from enquiry to dispatch

Five steps, each leaving a document that can be filed against the lot.

  1. Pick the format, the fill and the quantity

SS-31 raw powder is quoted per gram from 5 g, cold-chain. Vials are quoted per kit of ten in the 10 mg or 50 mg fill. A sample order is 1 kit (10 vials); private-label OEM runs begin at 50 kits (500 vials) and are planned as a production batch. Powder and a kit can be quoted together.

  2. Give the destination and the document list

The delivery country sets the route and the packing. Say whether the record must be seen before payment, whether the retest date should be written into the quotation, whether you need the CAS number on the certificate reconciled with the one on your order, and whether the certificate must follow a particular layout.

Import rules for SS-31 in your country are for you to confirm. The quotation describes goods and documents and does not advise on admissibility.

  3. Read the quotation beside the record

The quotation identifies SS-31 by CAS 736992-21-5 and lists format, quantity, lead-time window and, for allocated stock, the lot. Open the record for that lot and check the purity and molecular-weight results, and the CAS number printed on it, before confirming.

  4. Confirm and allow the typical window

Once specification and payment are confirmed, a sample kit typically dispatches within 3–7 days. Production batches are typically 10–14 days; OEM repeat batches are typically 14–18 days. The quotation states the window for your order; none is a fixed commitment.

  5. Check the parcel against the certificate

Match the lot number on each vial or on the powder container to the certificate, weigh what you can, and send a portion for your own analysis if your procedure requires it. Raise any mismatch with the lot number and photographs so it is resolved against the record.

SS-31 as powder or as vials: the decision

Both formats come from the same production and carry the same kind of certificate. The 50 mg fill changes the arithmetic for distributors.

SituationFormatReason
Your own filling or analytical method workRaw powder from 5 g, per gramOne weighed lot, split into units of your own choosing in your own containers
Sealed units for several laboratoriesVials, ten per kit, 10 mg or 50 mgEach vial labelled with fill and lot; the 50 mg fill means fewer units per gram handled

Ask for both formats on one enquiry if the decision is open. The supplier qualification checklist lists what to settle before the first order.

Two formats for SS-31

  • Raw powder

    SS-31 as raw material

From 5 g per order, quoted per gram, dispatched cold-chain. The batch COA confirmed for the lot states HPLC purity and MS identity. Choose this when your own fill-and-finish or analytical work needs bulk material.

  • Lyophilized vials

    SS-31 in finished vials

Fills of 10 mg, 50 mg per vial, ten vials per kit. A sample order is 1 kit (10 vials); private-label OEM starts at 50 kits (500 vials). Choose this when you need a finished, sealed unit per sample rather than weighed powder.

Handling

SS-31 in transit, in storage and at retest

SS-31 ships dry: weighed powder in a sealed container with cold-chain packing, or a lyophilized cake in a stoppered, crimped vial. The retest date on the certificate is when material still held should be examined again; it is not an expiry and does not change what the material is. Enter the lot number, the receipt date and the retest date in your stock record as the parcel is opened so the retest is scheduled.

Keep the container sealed, cold and dark, and open it only when needed. Repeated warming and chilling of an opened container admits moisture each time, and that is the handling fault most often behind a changed chromatogram later. The material is commonly supplied as a salt, so the weighed mass includes the counter-ion; if net peptide content matters to your work, ask for it on the enquiry. None of this is direction on use. The storage and retest guide covers it in more depth.

Who this page is for

Three SS-31 buyers this page serves

  • 01

A laboratory adding a second source

You hold SS-31 or elamipretide from another supplier and want an alternative whose record you can read first. Order one kit, compare its certificate with yours, including the CAS number printed on each, and move to powder if the results sit where you expect.

  • 02

    A distributor stocking larger-fill peptides

SS-31 and MOTS-c are often quoted together because both come in larger fills. One manufacturer for both gives one certificate layout and one lot-numbering scheme; quote them on one enquiry and the longer window governs dispatch.

  • 03

A brand owner planning a labelled run

You want SS-31 vials under your own label in the 10 mg or 50 mg fill. The minimum is 50 kits (500 vials) planned as a production batch; lots are released against a batch COA and reorders fall under the OEM repeat-batch window. Artwork and cartons are settled after the quotation.

What this page does not claim

Pepti does not present itself as a cGMP drug-substance (API) manufacturer or CDMO and does not publish a GMP certificate or DMF.

SS-31 is supplied for research use only and not for human or veterinary use. Nothing on this page describes an effect, a protocol or a use; a buyer who needs that information is on the wrong site.

SS-31 supply questions

Why does one SS-31 record show a different CAS number?

The 50 mg record states CAS 341001-38-7 on its certificate, while this page and the PubChem entry for CID 11764719 use 736992-21-5. That is what the record shows. Put 736992-21-5 on your purchase order and, if your quality file needs the two reconciled, ask on the enquiry which number the certificate for your lot will carry.

Is the 20 mg SS-31 fill available?

Not on the current offer sheet; the fills quoted today are 10 mg and 50 mg. The 20 mg record in the library documents a lot that was made and tested. If a 20 mg fill matters to you, ask, and the reply will be a quotation or a plain no.

Are SS-31 and elamipretide the same material?

Yes. SS-31, elamipretide and MTP-131 are three names for the tetrapeptide amide D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2 at 639.8 g/mol. Any of them can appear on a purchase order, but the CAS number is what the certificate quotes and what removes ambiguity about the registry entry.

What are the smallest SS-31 order and the lead times?

A sample kit of 1 kit (10 vials) in the 10 mg or 50 mg fill, or 5 g of raw powder. A sample kit: typically 3–7 days after specification and payment are confirmed. A production batch: typically 10–14 days. An OEM repeat batch: typically 14–18 days.
